CHICAGO (CBS) ―
They are law-abiding citizens in Chicago, but they are so worried about their own safety, they say they might have to break the law.

That has some African-American families in Chicago considering doing something they never would have done before: carry a pistol.

Cook County Right to Carry Town Hall Meeting!

Thursday May 27, 2010
7:00-9:00 pm

Serbian Social Center
18550 Stony Island Ave.
Lansing, Illinois 60438

One of the keys to securing a Right to Carry law in the state of Illinois is to inform and educate the public about the Right to Carry and how successful it is in the 48 states that have concealed carry provisions and in Wisconsin where the right to openly carry firearms for personal and family protection is recognized as lawful.

Many residents of Illinois do not know that 49 states have some form of right to carry law nor do they know Illinois is the last and only state to prohibit carrying a firearm for personal protection. With the media bias against the Right to Carry we cannot rely on the mainstream media to get the word out - we must take the message to the public and Illinois Carry is doing just that with our Right to Carry town hall meetings.

Recent town hall meetings in McHenry county, DuPage County, and in the city of Chicago have been very successful and we are expanding our efforts all over the state and deeper into Chicago! Find a town hall meeting near you and invite your friends and family who have questions or concerns about the issue, bring them to the meetings where those questions can be answered and their concerns can be addressed.

If you find Illinois laws regarding self-defense alarming, attend a Right to Carry Town Hall meeting and find what you can do about it!

Please come show your support for the right to carry and join in the effort to see a right to carry law passed in the state of Illinois!

Guns and Crime in Chicago

Gun laws are just invisible lines that some respect and do not cross. They offer an illusion of safety, as we deter away from the real problems. The thugs in the streets at night are still young men in their 20s. Somehow their parents failed in teaching them how to live a responsible life, and the school system failed in teaching them the potential that everyone in the world has. The issue of violence in chicago goes farther than just guns. As a community we need to kick those bad elements that plague our streets. I urge everyone to be vigilant and kick the punks off the block.

more jail time for repeat offenders + real gun ownership laws + a well funded education system = decline in Chicago crime rates

And to those who call us "gun nuts" just remember when seconds count.....the police are just minutes away. Don't wait to be a victim before you start crying about self defense
