Foreign-born gang members targeted in Chicago area

CHICAGO BREAKING NEWS

Transnational street gang members were the target of a series of arrests this week in the Chicago area, federal officials announced today.

Of the 28 gang members arrested, 27 were in the U.S. without documentation and face deportation, either directly or after facing charges in the United States, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

Of those arrested, 25 were from Mexico, one from Honduras and one from El Salvador, with one U.S. citizen arrested on an outstanding warrant.
The arrested men were documented gang members, representing at least 10 different gangs, according to the ICE statement.

One of the arrested was a Mexican national previously deported in 2005, who now faces federal charges that upon conviction could result in a 20-year prison sentence. Another man was facing warrants in DuPage County and Kane County, who will face those charges under local jurisdictions, ICE said.

The 25 men now in ICE custody were charged with administrative immigration violations and are pending removal from the United States, according to the ICE statement.

ICE agents made the arrests under Operation Community Shield with the cooperation of local law enforcement officials in Aurora, Chicago, Elgin, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, West Chicago, Wheeling and Wood Dale.

U.S. Army Trains to Take On Tea Party

On April 17, the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, reported on a military exercise dubbed “Mangudai,” named after the special forces of Genghis Khan’s Mongol army who could fight for days without food or sleep. The Kentucky newspaper portrayed the exercise as an effort to train soldiers to battle the Taliban in Afghanistan.

“Designed to test the limits of officers’ physical, mental and emotional endurance, the emerging Army exercise offered a revealing window onto modern combat training in the era of Iraq and Afghanistan,” Chris Kenning wrote for the newspaper. “Over three days last week, participants had to crawl on their bellies under real machine-gun fire, shimmy commando-style over a single rope high in the air and march for more than 22 miles through forests.”

FBI agent not prepared for Hutaree bond hearing

Ed Brayton
The Michigan Messenger
April 28, 2010

As a U.S. District Court hears an appeal of the bond denial for members of the Hutaree Christian militia that face charges of domestic terrorism, the judge in that case blasted federal prosecutors for not having an FBI agent prepared to answer questions at a Tuesday hearing on the matter. The Detroit News reports:

Special Agent Leslie Larsen, the agent in charge of the case in which nine people are accused of plotting to kill police officers and wage war against the U.S. government, did not know the answers to many of the questions she was asked and did not have her notes with her.

“I share the frustration of the defense … with all of the responses that are coming from this witness that she doesn’t know anything,” said U.S. District Judge Victoria A. Roberts.

Roberts said she told prosecutors late last week that they should be prepared to have an agent called to testify at Tuesday’s hearing, so she couldn’t understand why Larsen didn’t learn she would testify until shortly before the hearing began.

Judge Roberts is expected to rule on the bond question on Wednesday.

China To Sterilise 10,000 To Curb Births

SKY NEWS
Peter Sharp, China correspondent

Health authorities are planning to sterilise nearly 10,000 people in southern China over the next four days as part of a population control programme.
Some of the people in Puning City will be forced to have the procedure carried out against their will.

Amnesty International says forced sterilisation "amounts to torture".

Reports in the Chinese media say that Puning Health authorities in Guangdong Province have launched a special campaign to sterilise people who already have at least one child in order to ensure local birth control quotas are met.

Chinese newspaper reports say that those who refuse to be sterilised have seen their elderly mothers or fathers taken away and detained.

Hundreds of people in Puning are said to have been locked up.

Kate Allen, Director of Amnesty International UK, said: "It is appalling that the authorities are subjecting people to such an invasive procedure against their will.

"Reports that relatives are imprisoned as a means of pressurising couples into submitting to surgery are incredibly concerning.

"The Puning City authorities must condemn this practice immediately and ensure that others are not forcibly sterilised."

More than 1,300 people in the city have been held in local government buildings where they were given "lectures" on China's family planning regulations.

Huang Ruifeng is the father of three girls.

"Several days ago, a village official called me and asked me or my wife to return for the surgery," Huang told the local paper. "Otherwise they would take away my father."

He refused.

His father was later rounded up and detained by the authorities.

According to Puning rules, farmers are allowed to have a second child if the first child was a girl.

Illinois to Declare “Disarm Lawful Citizens Week”

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars.com
April 26, 2010

Not really. The Speaker of the Illinois House wants a “Gun Control Week” declared. In addition, “Speaker of the House Mike Madigan may require that the House of Representatives remain in session until it passes Daley’s 2010 gun control package,” according to an email alert sent out by the Illinois State Rifle Association. Daley proposes the following raft of unconstitutional legislation:

HB180 – a scheme to run gun shops out of business by forcing shops to get licensed and comply with a slew of burdensome regulations.

HB5480 – would ban private firearm sales and force citizens to process private sales through licensed gun shops. (Yes, those are the same gun shops that will be run out of business by HB180 above)

HB5495 – would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month. Of course, criminals are exempt from this gun-rationing scheme.

HB5751 – would give you 90 days to surrender all your semiautomatic rifles, pistols and shotguns to the state police or face felony prison time.

HB5849 – would make it a felony to use a case other than one designed for a firearm to transport it and give the police greater power to confiscate your guns for “improper transportation” even if you have committed no other crime.

HB6123 – would make it a felony to sell a firearm to someone who looks like a gang member (ie: Black, Hispanic, shaved heads (all races), tattoos (all races), motorcyclists (all races), etc.)

As a former Chicago resident, I can tell you that just about the only people on the street with illegal guns are “gang-bangers,” that is to say drug dealers and their executioners. Home invaders and assorted criminal thugs come in second. Closing down gun shops and forcing law-abiding residents to turn in their rifles and shotguns will not ameliorate the situation — it will make it worse. Home invaders will become fearless if they know the population is completely disarmed.

I lived on the west-side of Chicago. Most of the people I knew owned guns to protect themselves. If Daley and his bureaucrats pass these laws, residents will become insta-felons. Daley is telling city residents they have no right to protect themselves and their families.

Now the state wants to put the National Guard on the streets. This is basically a public relations stunt (and intimidation of law-abiding citizens) and will do nothing to end drug dealing and its associated turf war violence.

Instead of decriminalizing drugs and allowing residents the right to protect themselves, Daley and the Illinois Senate will turn Chicago into a large prison camp (or larger than it already is) with National Guard soldiers making sure the inmates cannot protect themselves. Residents with firearms will be no different than the residents of Baghdad. Armed soldiers trained to kill and break things will be assisting the cops in breaking down doors and hauling citizens off to prison.

Lawmakers Call for Troops on the Streets of Chicago

Illinois state Reps. and Chicago Democrats John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford are calling for on the governor, Chicago mayor Daley and Superintendent Jody Weis to use the National Guard in response to crime in the city.
“As we speak, National Guard members are working side-by-side with our troops to fight a war halfway around the world,” Fritchey said in a Sunday release. “The unfortunate reality is that we have another war that is just as deadly taking place right in our back yard. Is this a drastic call to action? Of course it is. But is it warranted when we are losing residents to gun violence at such an alarming rate? Without question.”

Cook County Right to Carry Town Hall Meeting

One of the keys to securing a Right to Carry law in the state of Illinois is to inform and educate the public about the Right to Carry and how successful it is in the 48 states that have concealed carry provisions and in Wisconsin where the right to openly carry firearms for personal and family protection is recognized as lawful.

Many residents of Illinois do not know that 49 states have some form of right to carry law nor do they know Illinois is the last and only state to prohibit carrying a firearm for personal protection. With the media bias against the Right to Carry we cannot rely on the mainstream media to get the word out - we must take the message to the public and IllinoisCarry is doing just that with our Right to Carry town hall meetings.

Recent town hall meetings in McHenry county, DuPage County, and in the city of Chicago have been very successful and we are expanding our efforts all over the state and deeper into Chicago! Find a town hall meeting near you and invite your friends and family who have questions or concerns about the issue, bring them to the meetings where those questions can be answered and their concerns can be addressed.

If you find Illinois laws regarding self-defense alarming, attend a Right to Carry Town Hall meeting and find what you can do about it!

Please come show your support for the right to carry and join in the effort to see a right to carry law passed in the state of Illinois!

Teaching Citizens Real Self Defense

By Richard
VIA bluesheepdog.com

I love seeing the news reports of a citizen using a gun and fighting back against their assailants. However, I’m really sick of hearing in the same reports a department spokesperson discouraging people from exercising their right to self defense. Generally, it goes like this:

Tina Smith was attacked in the mall parking lot by a man who was wanted for a string of rapes. The man, on probation for armed robbery, picked the wrong victim because Tina had a gun. When the man produced a knife and tried to force Tina into his car, Tina managed to draw her licensed .45 and permanently end his reign of terror.

“We’re glad Tina is ok,” said the police department spokesman. “But, we don’t encourage anyone to fight back.”

Town With Mandatory Gun Law Sees Very Little Crime

James Newcomb
JBS

Anyone who thinks that tighter gun control laws are the solution to the incident at Virginia Tech last week needs to visit Kennesaw, Georgia. The town passed its mandatory firearms law in 1982 in response to a law passed by Morton Grove, Illinois which banned guns as a way to reduce crime.

After the law was passed, the town witnessed a dramatic decrease in crime and has stayed low ever since. The law has also survived an increase in population from 5,000 in 1982 to over 30,000 today.

Robert Jones, president of the Kennesaw Historical Society, gives a unique and refreshing perspective for advocates of the Second Amendment. "People in Europe feel they need to be protected by the government. People in the U.S. feel they need to be protected from the government." Sounds radical in today's world where too many people only want government to protect them, doesn't it? Jones also adds that it is a great tourist attraction. "We're the town with the gun law," he said.

George Washington once said, "Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth." The right to own a firearm has been a staple of the American way of life ever since beginning of our country. President Washington said those words when the American people, by and large, were willing to accept the personal responsibilities necessary for liberty to prevail.

A return to a worldview based on the fear of God is what is necessary to prevent what happened at Virginia Tech, not restrictive gun control laws.

To carry or not to carry?

This whole issue is somewhat new to people who live in major cities where firearms are restricted and crime/homicide rates are high. If you come from Chicago or New York and take a visit to Arizona, you might be shocked to see someone at a store who is not part of law enforcement carrying a firearm. I believe it all starts with people educating themselves on current laws and ask why in cities with the strictest gun laws do the most crimes occur. Also why do MASS SHOOTINGS in "GUN FREE"zones. 49 out of 50 states have some form of concealed carry and even open carry law. Imagine if your driver's license was only good in a few states and your right is denied to drive. Just remember when seconds count.....help is only minutes away.

Arizona House approves concealed weapons bill

By JONATHAN J. COOPER (AP)

PHOENIX — The Arizona House voted Thursday to make the state the third in the nation to allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit, sending the governor a bill that would allow Arizonans to forego background checks and classes that are now required.

The legislation, approved by the House 36-19 without discussion, would make it legal for most U.S. citizens 21 or older to carry a concealed weapon in Arizona without the permit now required. Currently, carrying a hidden firearm without a permit is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.

Sen. Russell Pearce, a Mesa Republican who sponsored the measure, said last week that he added changes requested by Gov. Jan Brewer's office, an indication that she is likely to sign it. The governor can sign or veto the measure, or allow it to become law without action.

If the legislation is enacted, Arizona would join Alaska and Vermont in not requiring permits to carry concealed weapons. Forty-five other states require permits for hidden guns, and two states — Illinois and Wisconsin — prohibit them altogether.

Supporters say gun restrictions only affect people who want to follow the rules because criminals will carry hidden guns regardless of the law. Nearly all adults can carry a weapon openly in Arizona, and they shouldn't face additional restrictions when they want to hide the weapon, supporters argue.

"What's dangerous is when they're in criminals' hands, not citizens' hands," said Rep. David Gowan, R-Sierra Vista, a bill sponsor.

Opponents argue legalizing concealed weapons will make it easier for criminals to carry them, endangering police. They also worry the bill would lead to more accidental gun discharges by people not adequately trained in firearm safety.

"We wouldn't give people driver's licenses without requiring training or testing. Why would we give people the ability to carry a concealed weapon anywhere?" said Rep. Steve Farley, D-Tucson.

There are more than 154,000 active concealed weapon permits in Arizona.

Under the measure, Arizonans would still be subject to the background checks federal law requires when buying firearms from a store. People carrying a concealed weapon would be required to tell a police officer if asked, and the officer could temporarily take the weapon while communicating with the gun carrier.

Under the legislation, permits still could be obtained on an optional basis so Arizonans could carry concealed weapons in states with reciprocity agreements. Permits also would be required to carry weapons in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

With the elevation of Brewer to the governor's office, Arizona gun-rights advocates have had a wave of success over the past two years.

The state in 2009 loosened its gun laws to lift a ban on guns in establishments that serve alcohol, although gun-bearers still cannot drink alcohol and establishments can ban firearms.

Brewer, a Republican who took office in January 2009, signed that measure into law. Her predecessor, Democrat Janet Napolitano, vetoed several measures pushed by gun-rights supporters before resigning to run the U.S. Homeland Security Department.

On Monday, Brewer signed two bills loosening gun restrictions. One bill broadened the state's current restrictions on local governments' ability to regulate or tax guns and ammunition.

The other bill declares that guns manufactured entirely in Arizona are exempt from federal oversight and are not subject to federal laws restricting the sale of firearms or requiring them to be registered.

Alex Jones’ Message to Patriots: Warn the nation that the Police State has arrived

Collateral Murder

5th April 2010 10:44 EST WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff.

Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

The military did not reveal how the Reuters staff were killed, and stated that they did not know how the children were injured.

After demands by Reuters, the incident was investigated and the U.S. military concluded that the actions of the soldiers were in accordance with the law of armed conflict and its own "Rules of Engagement".

Consequently, WikiLeaks has released the classified Rules of Engagement for 2006, 2007 and 2008, revealing these rules before, during, and after the killings.

WikiLeaks has released both the original 38 minutes video and a shorter version with an initial analysis. Subtitles have been added to both versions from the radio transmissions.

WikiLeaks obtained this video as well as supporting documents from a number of military whistleblowers. WikiLeaks goes to great lengths to verify the authenticity of the information it receives. We have analyzed the information about this incident from a variety of source material. We have spoken to witnesses and journalists directly involved in the incident.

WikiLeaks wants to ensure that all the leaked information it receives gets the attention it deserves. In this particular case, some of the people killed were journalists that were simply doing their jobs: putting their lives at risk in order to report on war. Iraq is a very dangerous place for journalists: from 2003- 2009, 139 journalists were killed while doing their work.
