Every once and awhile comes a story that is all and to familiar to us. Set in Texas during late 2000 to early 2001 American Violet captivated the struggle of what African Americans go through in poor neighborhoods with police injustice. Dee Roberts, played by Nicole Beharie, is a single mother of 4 living in the projects. With her past behind her all she cares about is providing for her children and trying to make better for herself. She and a majority of her neighbors are falsely arrested on malicious charges. Some are guilty or innocent but are told to take a plea deal if they want to go home. The way the game is played is, the local law enforcement agencies get more government funding with the convictions. As Dee pleads for her innocence, she is hindered by a tough District Attorney that has racial issues, and her children's father, played by Xzibit. With the help of some outside lawyers, she sues the DA and fights for not just her but everyone effected. Based on a true story that occurred almost 10 years ago, its sad that this practice of unruly justice is still around today. Same ball game, new rookies, and the veteran players are now the owners and general managers.
