So you’re confident that that .40 caliber S&W service round will keep you safe. Maybe you’ll have second thoughts after you see this video. One hot summer night in 1994 Tempe and Mesa Arizona police were involved in a pursuit with this suspect who ran into a stranger’s apartment to hide after being shot TWICE in the chest. He was shirtless and you can see the blood pumping out of those two wounds.The Glock .40 cal were the new issue service pistols of the Mesa AZ police at the time. They used .40 S&W jacketed hollow points. There were no 9 MMs involved!

The offender was critically wounded but survived.

He was an ex-con who was returned to prison where he is serving 25 years.

Bigger is better but officers must keep their skills up and follow their training.

We all can learn a thing or two from Kevin McCallister, here is someone who ready for his attackers with everyday household items. But how do you prepare for unexpected trouble? REMEMBER its all about preparedness not paranoia. Many of you have fire extinguishers in your homes, are you expecting a fire? No, you have there as a tool just in case. Just like your tool for a fire, what kind of tools should you have for home safety?

It all starts by having a home defense protocol. By this i mean analyze your home, take a look at the strong and weak points. The protocol should be talked over and designed by all members of the household. Even include children, (**READ THIS STORY)
The main objective is to have things just in place at any given moment, even when you have guest over. A basic self defense course would be very useful, learning to fight off an attacker that armed or unarmed. Also the course should mentally prepare you for fatal use of force. Even though you practice for a non lethal approach, defensive knife wounds could be fatal. You should be prepared to assess the situation and take control. The whole objective of an intruder is to neutralize all parties, your role is to counter attack and keep everything in YOUR control.

There are Four items you will need that will be the core of your home defense protocol.
- Inexpensive tactical style knife
- Pepper Spray - Highly recommend INFERO
- Tactical style flashlights - I highly recommend one with a strobe/flash feature
- A home security system - motion detectors and a panic button works great

Here are some examples

These are all you will need to setup a basic home defense system. How far will you go to protect your loved ones. Also a dog would work well in the home to provide adequate security. Its all about having a fighting chance, remember calling 911 just won't cut it like the Warren vs D.C. case

As brutal as that scene was, its a reality that many people all over the world encounter on a daily basis. Your home is suppose to be your fortress. A place where safety isn't a primary concern. But this is not a perfect world, and you should be prepared for the worst. As i mentioned, this is a REALITY for some and don't always expect 911 to come to the rescue.

Warren v. District of Columbia is a U.S. Court of Appeals case in which three rape victims sued the District of Columbia because of negligence on the part of the police. Two of three female roommates were upstairs when they heard men break in and attack the third. After repeated calls to the police over half an hour, the roommate's screams stopped, and they assumed the police had arrived. They went downstairs and were held captive, raped, robbed, beaten, and forced to commit sexual acts upon one another and to submit to the attackers' sexual demands for 14 hours. The police had lost track of the repeated calls for assistance. DC's highest court ruled that the police do not have a legal responsibility to provide personal protection to individuals, and absolved the police and the city of any liability.

Pilots see Daley's exit as hope for revived Meigs Field

With Mayor Richard Daley set to leave office, it's time to bring back Meigs Field, according to private pilots who still bemoan the shutdown of the lakefront airport seven years ago.

General aviation pilots from across the country suggest that the changing political climate in the Chicago will not only lead to a new mayor, but also possibly a new Meigs.

"From what we're hearing and seeing, the aviation blogs and Twitter are alive with conversations about whether Mayor Daley's departure may create an opportunity to rebuild Meigs Field," said Chris Dancy, spokesman for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

About a month ago, Chappell Hill Bank president Edward Smith looked at a sign on the front door prohibiting concealed weapons from his business and decided to make a policy change.

Licensed to carry a handgun? Come on in, and bring your weapon.

The sign, now prominently displayed on the bank’s front door, says, “Lawful concealed carry permitted on these premises. Management recognizes the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as an inalienable right of all citizens. We therefore support and encourage the carrying of licensed concealed weapons.”

Dear Mayor Daley:

I was born and raised in Chicago. Your father was an honorable and good Mayor that deserved my vote. Unfortunately, unlike your father you have miserably failed.

Your father was a fiscal conservative that spent taxpayer money wisely. He cared about the citizens above all. Being a cop under your father was an honor if for no other reason he showed real concern for their welfare and safety.

Your father was no fan of gun rights but he took no steps to leave Chicagoans defenseless through gun bans. He brought free but unneeded gun registration and promised everyone it would not infringe further.

You have turned over the streets to armed criminals. That’s because you left the law-abiding defenseless by violating their Civil Rights to protect themselves under the Second Amendment.

Cops always used department provided ammunition to qualify on a firing range four times per year. If they had to shoot extra ammunition to qualify that was also provided.
Now you have police qualifying only once per year with a measly 30 rounds. That endangers the police and public. Additionally it creates liability issues potentially costing many millions of dollars.

Shoulder fired weapons are both easier to shoot and substantially more powerful. Under your leadership only the street thugs have these and but for few exceptions the police are miserably outgunned as a result.

By comparison, every police car in the state of California has both an M-4 carbine and a repeating .12 gage shotgun.

Under your father’s leadership there as many as 14,100 cops protecting the city. Today, even with the cooked manpower books there are substantially fewer.

Under your father’s direction all Chicago cops were bright, large and strong men. That changed with affirmative action and as intelligence testing was altogether eliminated. Instead dumber, weaker and much smaller cops were put in the trenches and that has impressed nobody especially dangerous criminals.

Under your woefully unqualified Superintendent more cops have been ambushed, killed or maimed despite wearing modern body armor. Your superintendent may have worked for the FBI but he never once patrolled the streets of a large city enforcing laws. In fairness, no police superintendent can keep a lid on violence under the Daley/Burke administration.

You have traded public safety for frivolous projects that Chicagoans did not want or need to feed you campaign contributors hundreds of millions of precious tax dollars. That, as you have turned taxation into an extortion program, that has chased vital business and productivity away.

As a direct result of your mismanagement and disastrous leadership the City of Chicago is so badly broken, the needed repairs will take many years.

Last night two more cops were gunned down and the body count keeps climbing. Instead of well armed and trained police you rely on cameras, computers and now summit meetings with dangerous criminals.

Law abiding Chicagoans must be allowed to protect themselves with firearms when they are outside of the safety and comfort of their own homes. Right now only well-armed criminals and marginally armed cops have any firearms at all.

The voters of Chicago need leaders that can enable employers and tourists to return to Chicago.

Mr. Mayor you need to walk away from City Hall and not look back. The city needs real leadership like your father once provided.

The NRA's Eddie Eagle will soon be offering his brand of gun-safety lessons to the Virgina schoolchildren. A new law will require Virginia's education department to come up with a gun-safety curriculum for public elementary schools that incorporates guidelines from the NRA.
The law allows local school divisions to offer gun-safety education to pupils in kindergarten through fifth grade. While each school board can decide whether to offer it, those that do must use the state curriculum -- which will include rules used by the NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program.
NRA's Eddie Eagle website says that the program's goal "isn't to teach whether guns are good or bad, but rather to promote the protection and safety of children."
The Eddie Eagle mascot advises children: "If you see a gun: STOP! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult."
Eddie Eagle does not promote firearm ownership or use and firearms are never used in the program, the website says.
I think Illinois should move in the same direction, even though proper gun saftey training starts at home, we should also teach children the rules of guns the same way we teach them about fire, strangers, and other safety issues.
